The Atlantic Institute announces the two collaborative projects receiving Senior Fellow Awards because of the deep collaboration between Fellows and promise of impact.

The Atlantic Institute’s first “Annual Review” is a descriptive account of a year in which Atlantic Fellows, program staff and their communities met and addressed significant challenges. It covers the financial year (July 2019 - July 2020), so features in-person events, as well as the pivot to virtual events aimed at providing support and learning opportunities during the pandemic.

The 12th and last of the webinars in the series, “A (K)new World Reimagined”, examined the challenges of air pollution and climate change, particularly for Black communities and people of color — hardest hit by this toxic mix as well as being disproportionately more vulnerable to COVID-19.

Jemma Stringer will be joining the Atlantic Institute team as Program and Impact Lead (Innovation and Special Projects) on Dec. 7. She is an experienced facilitator and curriculum designer for face-to-face and virtual learning sessions as well as blended learning curriculums.

The Atlantic Institute Governing Board (AIGB) has unanimously appointed Evie O’Brien as Executive Director of the Atlantic Institute for a five-year term. Evie has been Acting Executive Director of the Institute, housed at Rhodes House in Oxford in the UK, since January 2020.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Atlantic Fellows are carrying out projects designed to minimize the impact of COVID-19 on endangered and vulnerable communities worldwide. As from April 2020, more than 70 Fellows successfully applied for a total of 57 Solidarity Grants – short-term, rapid response funding from the Atlantic Institute.

What should leaders be doing to tackle systemic and institutional racism in the long term? In this webinar, hosted by the Atlantic Institute, speakers discussed a range of subjects: from public participatory budgets to changing systems built to favour white people over people of color, to standing up for Black girls who’ve been subjected to, or are at risk, of female genital mutilation.

The Atlantic Institute has a new Augmented and Virtual Realities Lead on the team. As from Nov. 9, Alice will be using augmented reality to drive change.
